SALTWATER FLY PATTERNS are relatively few in number in comparison to the huge range of flies used in freshwater, so it makes life a little easier.
As a Trout fly-fisherman I have always tied my own flies, fly-tying to me is as exciting as catching fish, and I have had real pleasure in creating my own saltwater patterns, most of which are similar to traditional salt-water patterns I admit, but tying your own flies means you can experiment with your own designs.
My own thoughts as far as flies are concerned is that they should look and act in the water as close as possible to the real thing, this especially applies to shrimp and crab patterns.
Christmas tree flies, as I like to word it, look so unnatural that I find it hard to use them, it’s just a personal thing, but ask any fly fisherman what its like to fish with a fly they have no faith in, and you know what I mean.
